Celebrities and Religion: A List of Who Worships What

Buddhist, Mormon, Muslim, Catholic, Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Scientologist and atheist celebrities

How much does faith play into one’s popularity in 2012?

Popular Buddhists you might not expect included the brilliant Steve Jobs and still includes Leonard Cohen, Boy George, Richard Gere, Steven Seagal, Kate Bosworth, David Bowie and Orlando Bloom!

Not just Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney, but celebrities Katherine Heigl, Gladys Knight, Glenn Beck, Jon Heder and Rick Schroeder are all reported to be Mormons.

Popular muslims have their own website and are MANY.  From Mike Tyson to Fareed Zakaria to Omar Sharif, the list is long.

Roman Catholics can count Katie Holmes back among their own as of a report earlier this week, and also have Martin Sheen, Jimmy Kimmel, Nicole Kidman, Stephen Colbert, Harry Connick, Jr., Roger Federer and Carson Daly among their 1.2 billion.

Other notable non-Catholic Christians include President Barack Obama, Jane Fonda, Justin Bieber, Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington, Ozzy Osborne, Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, Tyler Perry, Queen Latifa and Bono, along with countless others of varied levels of popularity.

Judaism proudly counts many of the Nobel Prize winners along with Steven Spielberg, Adam Levine, Natalie Portman, Matisyahu, Isla Fisher, Amanda Peet and Gene Simmons among many others.

Famous Hindus now include the lovely Julia Roberts, Russell Brand and George Harrison.

And yes, we have many famous atheists, too.  Among hundreds of other famous atheists, are these:  Angelina Jolie, Mark Zuckerberg, Daniel Radcliffe, James Cameron, Woody Allen, Lance Armstrong,  Rafael Nadal and Jack Nicholson.

The Church of Scientology actively recruits celebrities to boost their image and they still have many among their own including Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Danny Masterson, Kirstie Alley, Leah Remini, Lisa Marie Presley, Juliette Lewis, Greta Van Sustern and Jenna Elfman.

The faith of the famous continues to fascinate us. And, it affects their fan base and plays a role in how we perceive them.
